FTSE Sector Performance

As I am in the process of constructing my High Yield Portfolio, I thought it would be interesting to look at the FTSE sector performance (with the intention to use this information in the construction of my HYP).

For the period of 1986-2005, the following sectors were the best performers:

And, the 5 worst performers (which I intend to avoid in my portfolio):

Of course, there is no guarantee that these results will be repeated, but they provide a useful pointer to the sectors which may outperform in the future. Other poorly performing sectors include Chemicals, General Retailers and Transport.
